Now for our challenge:

Our second challenge for this month is all about using different techniques in your paper crafting.

Christina’s technique is using dimension on her layout:

To make the tag in the bottom right corner, I started by painting the chipboard the main color of the background, in this case, white. I then used a Versa Ink and then covered with UTEE (Ultra Thick Embossing Enamel) embossing powder and set it with a heat gun. You will need to repeat this process a few times to build up a thick amount of enamel. You will also need to have your stamp ready with paint and press it into the ‘warm’ chipboard after the third repeat. Wait until the UTEE has cooled and then take the stamp off. To get a smoother look, wait for the UTEE to cool and then press the stamp.

Colleen used stamps, ink, and embossing for her techniques used on these cards:

Happy Father’s Day Card – acrylic stamps
- inspired by Julia Stainton (Stamp It! cards current issue)

- grabbed the EK Success Happy Father’s Day sentiment and the “You’re out of this world” (Studio G) and laid them down for placement.
- got out my black ink and stamped the Father’s Day one first since it’s in the center.
- immediately poured embossing power over this with a piece of paper under the card to gather the excess powder.
- then stamped the other black sentiment and put embossing powder in it as well.
- picked up the paper from under the card with the extra powder and put a little crease on one side of it and poured the extra back in the jar.
- next was the spaceship and I did the same thing, but with the blue ink.
- the last was the stars and this took a little longer because they’re a straight line of stamps, but I wanted them curved on my card, so I curved them on the acrylic block and then would check placement and changed them a couple of times before I actually stamped them to make sure they were in the right spot for me.
- after putting embossing powder on them too, I went and used my heat gun to emboss them and them added that block to my card!

- the stamps in this are from a Kelly Panacci (Sandylion) set and all separate, so I used a large acrylic block and spaced them out how I liked.
*To do this, I actually laid the stamps on my card (without the block) when I thought I wanted them and when I was happy I just put the block down over them to add them to the block and pick them up.
*Before actually stamping if I’m going to be embossing, I rub a used dryer sheet over the cardstock to help prevent the card from picking up any excess embossing powder
- once they were where I wanted on the block, I just inked them (blue) and stamped with the first colour. I couldn’t cover the whole card with one stamping, so I reinked and rotated the block and stamped again on the other side.
- then I put on my embossing powder and heated it with my heat gun.
*I find by holding my card at a bit of an angle when I heat, it’s easier to see when the powder has heated because you don’t want to overheat and burn it either.
*use a pair of tweezers to hold the item you’re heating if it’s small because you don’t want to heat your fingers as well.
- repeated the same process with another colour (orange)
- for the last colour, I chose a few stamps rather than all of them, including one I hadn’t used before. I stamped them randomly and them put on embossing powder and heated as well.
- lastly I added a few random Hero Arts gemstones to the circles and then put the white I had stamped on onto the actual card.

Lisa created this layout using stitching:

Stitching on layouts is one of my favorite techniques, it adds texture and can be used to draw your eye in or give it a resting point. If machine stitching intimidates you because you’re afraid you won’t get a straight stitch then stop worrying and make it look like you’ve done it crooked on purpose! When stitching a boarder I always go around twice over lapping every once in a while. This technique makes my crooked lines look like they were done on purpose! If you really want a straight stitch you can use your ruler and mark where you want you lines using faint pencil marks, this will give you a guide to follow!
